I have a very severe high frequency hearing loss. I have tried a number of hearing aids, but have not been satisfied. I want to understand speech better, but I don't want to waste my time or my audiologist's . Is there anything that might help? Don't give up. One product specifically designed for your type of hearing loss is a "digital frequency compression" hearing aid. Basically it moves sounds from higher frequencies into silghtly lower frequency ranges where your hearing is better and more easily amplified. Many people who have previously rejected "normal" hearing aids experience nice results from this type of hearing aid. Your hearing healthcare provider can advise if this is an appropriate option.
